Titanium
Dioxide
Is a white pigment mainly produced for the paint and plastics industry but also
found in confectionery, foods, cosmetics, pharmaceutical drugs and sun creams
due to its ability to reflect UV light. It is a known pollutant and suspected
animal carcinogen. Titanium dioxide is a nano particle, which means its size
is a billionth of a metre (1/80,000 the size of a human hair). For some researchers
this is a cause for concern because when a chemical has been reduced to this
size, the physical properties change leading to potentially new and unknown
health hazards.
